Quotes from the review by Mark Lowry of The Tempest from The Fort Worth Star Telegram
"Director Sherrie Wollenhaupt recently earned a masters degree in drama from Texas Womans University, and her bio boasts 30 years of Shakespeare experience. This production signals her as a director to watch."
"Eric Devlin would have been an obvious choice as Prospero, but Wollenhaupt cast his wife, Amber Devlin, in that role (Eric is Alonso). Willy Shakes plays are guy-heavy, and casting women in mens roles isnt revolutionary, but it pays off when it works, as it does here, adding interesting subtext about gender roles in Elizabethan society and classical literature. Amber Devlin has the complexity to pull it off and doesnt treat it as a woman playing a man there are subtle feminine touches. Other gender switches include Nicole Pintal as the jester Trinculo, Melody Jones as Sebastian and Arlette Morgan as Antonio. These three, along with Amber Devlin, give the strongest performances."
Best reason to go: Amber Devlin
